It isn’t a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.

Building Focus, Energy & Courage - to Make a Better Life for You

Coaching Practice Tips:
Choices and Consequences

If you find yourself in conflict with those around you and/or rushed off your feet, the chances are that you have a few "open loops" in your life.

Choices lead to consequences and things are healthiest when the choosers get the consequences of their choices. But sometimes it's not that way. Sometimes those consequences are dumped on someone who didn't get to make the choice. When that happens things are unstable and generally unhappy. The fix is to close the loop - to return the consequences of choices to the choosers. When they get to bear the consequences of their own choices, then they make better choices. It's fairer, healthier and happier all round.

This problem, and its fix, span all walks of life. If you're a parent, then chances are your children are making some choices whose consequences you're carrying. If you're at work, those around you - above, below, and adjacent to you are making choices leading to consequences for you. And in relationships of all kinds, it's happening too.

I'm always looking for better ways to get things across so I've dealt with this in a video; actually two videos to fit in Youtube's 10-minute video limit. You can find the series here:

Choices & Consequences - part 1

Choices & Consequences - part 2

Of course, making the necessary changes causes problems in the short-term, and time and again in my coaching practice, I see folks telling me it's impossible to change, but it almost never is. So look hard, think outside the box and be patient and persistent - and you'll get there.

Or call me up for some help

Have fun with closing your loops.
