Keeping an ambition in your mind for long is difficult in modern life. Distractions, fatigue and good old sneaky avoidance take their toll, and before you know it, your shiny new ambition is a slightly embarrassing memory.
My Goal reminder system is one way to get a tap on the shoulder at regular intervals by email, and there's some good advice on setting goals here. All of that's free. Of course, they don't come close to full the coaching experience, but then full-on coaching isn't free!
So a great friend of mine suggested something new from the Weight Watchers world. She pointed out that many people pay £5 a pop to show up and be publicly weighed. They don't even stay for the talk on nutrition of whatever - they just pay, weigh, and go away! WHY ARE THEY DOING THAT?
Well, people recognise that they're often not who they wish they were. They don't have the inner resources to compel themselves to walk the path they would like, and they welcome a little kick in the booty once a week. They'll even pay money for a little ritual public humiliation.
So - perhaps you can see what's coming. My online goal reminder service is free, but it can't really humiliate you, and that's important! You're unlikely to jump to your goals in the face of another email reminder from some anonymous computer.
But what if I PHONED YOU UP??
How would you feel if you knew I was going to? What would it be like if you knew that, at the appointed time, the phone would ring, and a big ugly life coach was going to ask you how you're doing with your goal?? Would that motivate you better? Wouldn't you feel more inclined to do the work? I think most people would, and therein lies the value of this service.

Of course, it won't really be ritual humiliation, it'll be fun. The call will last up to five minutes. You can say what's been happening with your goal. I may ask you some illuminating questions. I'll offer words of encouragement and perhaps, share some ideas and techniques to help you reach your goal. But knowing the call will happen will give you a powerful incentive to get some work done on it, won't it?
A word of Caution
This service is a compromise, yielding real benefits for low cost, but it's not for everyone; 5 minutes is not very long,so please bare in mind the following:
- I cannot tell you exactly when I'll call - I'll call you at some point in the 2-hour window you booked
- If you don't answer the phone, that's it - you lost your slot and your fee
- In your 5 minutes, there is no time for you to vent your feelings or tell long stories
- We'll need to end promptly
