The New Self Help Book:
The Time of Your Life
- Inspirations & Insights from Coaching Practice
Life is a challenge; things don't go as you hoped. Without
uncommon levels of clarity and drive, most of us find ourselves in the
role of unhappy puppet in a life we're not controlling any more. As the
years roll by we become increasingly despondent. As we grow older, most
people turn away from their dreams and settle for much less.
This book will help you:
- Learn how to see the world more clearly
- Understand why things are the way they are
- Deploy proven real-world techniques to step up to a far better life
About The Time of Your Life
This, my first self help book, is a collection of inspirational articles
containing insights and techniques proven to work in my coaching practice.
Some will be found on this website and in our newsletters, but this
book contains them all, and more besides, packaged into a convenient
book of secrets for you to help your self whenever you like.
It's around 140 pages of 9 by 6 inch perfect-bound pages, in a nice
glossy cover, containing around 35,000 words. There are around thirty
bite-sized articles, each carefully written to accomplish these key
- To provide easy, entertaining access to key concepts in self-development
- To speak plainly and directly of real people and their actual experiences
and struggles toward happiness
- To share insights about why we are internally-conflicted and why
we sabotage our own success
- To explain powerful techniques which work - for ordinary people
with ordinary doubts and weaknesses
- To inspire people to believe in the possibility of better, and then
to reach out and grab it
Bit by bit, this book will dissolve cynicism, pessimism bewilderment
and apathy, clearing away the distortions of our hidden beliefs, opening
doors to the reality which was always there waiting for us to be see
Here are a selection of the topics dealt with in this book of secrets:
- The Tyranny of Freedom
Western cultures have often risen above the need to work hard for
survival. We take food and shelter for granted. We have TVs and cars,
and options. But dammit - what now? Our society doesn't teach us to
take control of our lives, and it shuns ambition and confidence. We
follow the Jones or the TV stereotypes. This is not authentic living,
but what is - and how do we find our own path? This book will help
you to see your inner compass. Knowing the direction to start walking
is the step before the first step.
- The Lens of Belief Distorts Reality
We think we see the world as it really is. We call that "reality"
and resist any attempts to unseat it. But almost inevitably our reality
is nothing of the kind - it's a heavily edited, filtered, distorted
view of the world, which, perversely, we made to support our beliefs.
We're trapped. What we need is to recognise and then remove those
distortions. When we do that, we discover new beliefs - and since
beliefs (and not intellect) drive behaviour, we'll see our lives change,
and in ways which our willpower could never accomplish alone. It's
all in this book.
- Watching & Controlling our Thoughts
Our brains are largely autonomous. We sit in there watching
it do its stuff, we don't even try to intervene and any attempt
usually fails anyway. Watching your thoughts is a key to understanding
why you do what you do. This process provides a window into your beliefs,
and with understanding, opportunities arise to take back control.
This is the work of personal transformation. It's how you change who
you are which ultimately, is what's necessary to change what
you do (and the other name for that is your life). It's in
- Managing Time
Most of us are on a treadmill of one kind or another. We
fly along meeting immediate demands on our time. We're too busy working
IN our lives to work ON them. Controlling how you spend your time
is key to taking back control, and there are some great techniques
to help you in this book.
Fear is usually the elephant in the room. It's the huge thing
we don't talk about that prevents us from taking action. Once we learn
to recognise the role of fear in our lives and in our world-view,
we free ourselves to look into our fear. We can recognise that our
fear is never based in rational thinking. It comes from another part
of ourselves. Recognising that, is often the first step to freedom.
The role of others in our lives is centrally important. Most
of us live in social units - work teams, and families. How we relate
to others, and specifically - how we express our wishes and progress
our plans within these relationships often comes down to dealing with
(rather than avoiding) conflict. Conflict aversion is tied intimately
into fear. Both are barriers to personal growth, and both are explored,
and techniques offered in this book.
- Making Change Happen
So many people read the books, attend the seminars and buy
in to the concepts but still don't do the stuff to make change
happen. I call this inertia, and this book tackles inertia in its
various forms, and presents techniques - proven in real coaching practice
- to get you moving in the right direction.
Confidence is a manifestation of your beliefs about your
self. Those beliefs determine your actions and in general, you'll
act to make your beliefs true - even when those actions make you sad.
So improving self esteem is about exploring your beliefs about yourself.
Tough work, and seldom fast, but with persistence and the techniques
in this book, you can sustain great progress.
I developed the terms "life blinkers" and "life blindness"
for something I see in every single client I coach. We accept the
ways of our world so completely, that we even fail to see them at
all. Their impact is seen as the way of the world. Universally
true aspects of reality which are not negotiable. Exposing these blind
spots offers the possibility of radical life transformation, and the
book shows real-world examples to you get it - and take it
into your own life.
All of this is dealt with in down-to-earth ways, in plain language,
and illustrated with real-life examples from my coaching practice. I
KNOW this stuff works; I use it daily, and I see it working daily in
my clients' lives.
This book comes in two forms, each with their merits, and the choice

I'm writing to say how much I've been enjoying all your
newsletters - not only is the content brief and to the point but they're
also aesthetically pleasing!
It is always SO GOOD to ... see your newsletters which
I devour and then print and place in a special file called "'ME!"
There is something wholesome about "wise counsel" which has
the power to change the direction of my day.
... My life is at a better place because of you.
I would like to deeply appreciate my thanks for your well
formulated, inspiring, vision-awakening and hope-evoking newsletters.
It has motivated me to do something very big which will instill a deep
confidence to work for my permanent holistic transformation.
Thank you for the [technique] - it is powerful - as everything you put
into my life has been. I am so so so well. I'm sure you won't believe
me but that one month with your coaching has had a great effect on me.
I have filed everything away in a special file and am now really studying
each word/concept/new thought. I have changed. Discovered my SELF and
Loved your ... 'Conquering Fear' - need to do more work
... your articles are always well read here!
Your newsletters really work for me, especially when you
explain a concept and illustrate it with a real life example of a dialogue
that you had with one of your client. Other coaches are just full of
testimonial but never expose some of the inner working of their work.
It feels like they're all about marketing a product rather than coaching.
Your newsletter inspires confidence.

I really get so much from your articles which, for me, cover topics
that make me laugh, think, feel sad, happy and loads more. But you speak
from the heart and share not only your professional thoughts and advice;
I feel you come from a personal place too but you're not scared 'to
go there'. I find that truly special and thank you so much because this
gives me courage to face my fears knowing the world isn't going to come
crashing down. I may be a bit wobbly for a while, but that's how I learn
and am able to move on feeling stronger.
I look forward to your articles and pray you will continue to be blessed
and inspired by the Creator to keep `doing you'.
I Find all your [articles] very useful, and take time to read them over
& over again.
Thank you for your [articles]. I have acted on this, and am now in a
great job, and it helped to have your 'making friends with your boss'
type advice to do this. I stopped being angry and started to be proactive
and got my confidence back, and proceeded to go to an interview and
get a new job,

as the dreaded Auto pilot keeps switching on! :0)
All the best Chris.

look at everyday thoughts and ideas from a different perspective - Thanks

- I spent 17 years in blue-chip multi-nationals - most as a manager
of people & projects, which has taught me a great deal about
why people sometimes fail, and how to help them succeed. I combine
this experience with my coaching skills in the service of my clients.
- During three years as a freelance lecturer, I learned a lot
about relating to and helping people from all walks of life, and
I also learned what a pleasure that was. This experience helped
me find my vocation in life coaching.
- I graduated with distinctions in the theory and practice of
life coaching, from the coaching academy. I have also tauight
leadership coaching for them. I've coached a large number of clients
presenting disparate coaching challenges.
- I have taught coaching to coaching academy graduates; I was
an inaugural member of The Coaching Academy's inner circle,
and one of only seven members of it's executive committee - overseeing
the ethics of coaching in the UK.
- These days I coach private and corporate clients, consult for
businesses, and write.
